Village in the Shade Update: Patch 1.30 Unlocks and Event Guide
Explore the Village in the Shade update with Patch 1.30 unlock requirements, birthday events, seeder upgrades, furniture, and event troubleshooting.
What changed in the latest update?
As of October 28, 2026, the Village in the Shade update is available on Steam as Free Update #2, Patch 1.30, according to the official Patch 1.30 announcement. Its birthday events, seeder, and bathroom furniture have progression requirements, so installing the patch alone does not unlock everything. This Village in the Shade update guide explains those requirements, the conditions that delay events, and which features came from the earlier Patch 1.20.

| Patch 1.30 addition | What it brings |
|---|---|
| Language support | English, French, and Spanish |
| Protagonist birthdays | An event to choose your birthday, followed by birthday interactions |
| Seeder | A tool for sowing seeds, planting seedlings, and spreading fertilizer |
| Plumbing Fixture series | Ten furniture items for bathroom decorating |
The sections below use Steam’s patch terminology and version number. The announcement does not establish equivalent console patch numbers or rollout timing.
For an established save, your first useful checks are progression milestones and the mailbox. Several additions begin with a letter, while the seeder and Plumbing Fixture furniture become purchases at the General Store after their respective requirements are satisfied.
How to unlock birthdays, the seeder, and plumbing furniture
The Village in the Shade update gives its headline additions separate requirements. Check each milestone individually rather than assuming that reaching one unlocks all three.
Birthday setting and birthday celebrations
Birthday setup requires Year 2 plus a mode-specific story milestone. Both conditions must be satisfied.
| Mode named in the Steam notes | Birthday setup requirements |
|---|---|
| Village in the Shade Mode | Reach Year 2, with at least one day having passed since completing the main scenario |
| Village in the Sunshine Mode | Reach Year 2, with at least one day having passed since Nago moved into the village |
Once eligible, check your mailbox. A letter starts the event that lets you choose the protagonist’s birthday.
When that date arrives, speak with villagers. Residents whose affection level is 3 or higher will acknowledge your birthday, and you may receive a special present. The notes describe presents as a possibility, so do not assume every qualifying resident guarantees one.
Reaching Year 2 alone is insufficient. For example, a Shade Mode save that has entered its second year still needs the main scenario completed and the required day to pass.
The official English website calls the optional non-horror starting choice Peaceful Life Mode. The Steam announcement uses Village in the Sunshine Mode, which is the terminology retained in the requirements table.
Seeder unlock and upgrades
The seeder’s requirement is restoration progress at a specific location: the crossroads hokora must reach at least its third stage.
Follow this sequence:
- Restore the crossroads hokora to stage three or beyond.
- Check your mailbox for the associated letter.
- Purchase the seeder at the General Store.
The tool handles three farming tasks: sowing seeds, planting seedlings, and applying fertilizer. Its initial coverage is a three-tile area ahead of your character.
You can increase its reach by upgrading it at the anvil. The announcement does not specify every upgrade’s coverage or material requirements, so the confirmed starting point is three tiles rather than an assumed maximum.
Plumbing Fixture furniture
Obtain the Fox Hunting Permit to qualify for the Plumbing Fixture series. After meeting that requirement, look for a letter and check the General Store.
The ten confirmed items are:
- Bathtub
- Shower
- Bath Stool
- Bath Bucket
- Toilet
- Toilet Paper Holder
- Wall Towel
- Bathroom Sink
- Partition Curtain
- Partition
Check the permit carefully if the furniture is missing. The earlier Camping series uses the Pheasant Hunting Permit, which is a different requirement.
Why your new events may not trigger
A missing event after the Village in the Shade update does not automatically indicate a bug. The official notes identify story and weather restrictions that can delay otherwise eligible events.
| Possible blocker | Relevant content | What to check next |
|---|---|---|
| Certain main-story sections | Patch 1.30 events | Continue the scenario and check again afterward |
| Thunderstorms | Patch 1.30 events | Try a day without a thunderstorm |
| Missing progression milestone | Birthdays, seeder, or plumbing furniture | Verify the exact requirement for that addition |
| Missed letter | Several update unlocks | Check your mailbox before looking for the next step |
| Rain or certain story scenes | Patch 1.20 Furniture Catalog event | Wait for clear weather or advance the story |
The weather restrictions differ between announcements. Patch 1.30 specifically identifies thunderstorms. The earlier Furniture Catalog event has a rain restriction. Applying the catalog’s rule to every new event would go beyond the official notes.
Separate eligibility from completion, too. Receiving a letter can be an intermediate step: the Furniture Catalog requires visiting the location described in its letter, while the seeder becomes something you purchase.
For birthday troubleshooting, check the order of events carefully. First qualify for birthday setup, then receive the letter and choose a date. Birthday greetings happen when that chosen date arrives, and the individual villager still needs affection level 3 or higher.
These checks give you concrete milestones to verify before treating an absent event as an unexplained problem.
Patch 1.30 improvements for everyday farm life
Several changes in the Village in the Shade update affect routine farming, decorating, and village interactions. They are less prominent than the new unlocks but useful when resuming an existing save.
| Improvement | Practical effect |
|---|---|
| Horizontal building flipping | Buildings such as the Barn and Greenhouse can be mirrored during relocation |
| Miracle Whistle persistence | Entering a building on your farm no longer ends its effect |
| Brand renaming | Brand names can be edited through the field guide |
| Longer name input | Name entry supports up to eight characters |
| Japanese name-entry support | A hardware-dependent input pad enables kanji entry in Japanese |
| Green Dye availability | Green Dye is easier to obtain |
| Decorative trees | Trees have been added to catalog purchases |
| Item handover range | Items can be passed to villagers from farther away |
| Doghouse behavior | The dog can enter its doghouse |
Check the Kiki Construction collection box after flipping a furnished building. The patch notes state that furniture inside a building moves into that box when the building is flipped during relocation.
That detail matters when rearranging a decorated Barn or Greenhouse: the building’s orientation changes, but you will need to retrieve its interior furniture.
Other improvements have limits to what the announcement confirms. It says Green Dye is easier to obtain without providing a new drop rate or detailed acquisition method. Likewise, the greater item handover range is confirmed without an exact distance. Use those changes as practical conveniences rather than planning around unsupported numbers.
Patch 1.20 additions and the spring 2027 DLC plan
Some features you encounter alongside the Village in the Shade update originated in Free Update #1, Patch 1.20. The official Patch 1.20 announcement documents the following additions and their requirements.
| Patch 1.20 feature | Unlock requirement | Where it leads |
|---|---|---|
| Camping furniture series | Obtain the Pheasant Hunting Permit | Eleven furniture items become available at the General Store |
| Silkie Chickens and Mallards | Reach Autumn of Year 1 | Purchase them from Chinana’s stall |
| Fluffy Cows and Spotted Goats | Purchase at least one goat | Purchase the new livestock from Chinana’s stall |
| Additional farmland | Purchase all existing additional farmland, plus satisfy the mode-specific milestone below | A letter directs you to an event offering another plot |
| Furniture Catalog | Reach Autumn of Year 1 and purchase furniture from the General Store or Chinana’s stall | Follow a letter to the event that awards the catalog |
For the additional farmland, Shade Mode requires Tobari to have given her request to restore the hokora. Sunshine Mode requires Nago to have moved into the village. In either case, all previously available additional farmland must already be purchased.
The Furniture Catalog allows repeat purchases of furniture previously bought from the General Store or Chinana’s stall. Orders arrive in your mailbox the following day. Its introductory event can be delayed by rain or certain main-story scenes.
The livestock additions also have documented production roles. Silkie Chickens and Mallards lay eggs daily and occasionally leave feathers. Fluffy Cows produce milk daily, while Spotted Goats produce goat’s milk daily.
Patch 1.20 also introduced continuous processing-machine loading and unloading by holding the button, a display of remaining scarecrow days, and protection against crops withering on the same day their covering scarecrow breaks. Those improvements belong to the earlier patch.
What is confirmed about paid DLC?
The Patch 1.30 announcement’s DLC section schedules paid DLC for spring 2027. Its stated scope includes new mechanics, scenarios, maps, and events.
That future content is separate from the free additions described above. The announcement gives a seasonal window, without an exact release date, price, or detailed feature list.
